Ice Cream.....NO......GELATO!!!!!....Yeah!!

 So, you love ice cream but you've never had Gelato?  Oh my, you don't know what you're missing!  Why Gelato, you ask? What makes it different than good old fashioned ice cream?


That's why you must just try it.    First of all it's ingredients are different than ice creams.  Secondly, it's made different.  And just so you know, Gelato in Italian means Frozen.

So, lets go on to see why Gelato is different from ice cream.

Since there's not as much fat in gelato the flavors are more intense."  (not much fat?  that's a huge plus in itself!)

Gelato contains about 25 to 30 percent air, while ice cream can contain as much as 50 percent air.  While ice cream is usually served frozen, gelato is normally served at a slightly warmer temperature, not quite completely frozen.  While ice cream is normally heavy on the cream and has a fat content of at least 10 percent, gelato uses more milk than cream, and generally also uses less egg yolks — if any.

Ice creams are churned faster and harder than gelato. It increases in volume (with air, through churning) by at least 25 and up to 90 percent and becomes "fluffy". Gelato is churned at a much slower pace, keeping it dense.

Italy is the only country in the world where the majority of gelato is still made by hand.  The heavy use of milk rather than cream means it has less fat.  American style icre cream, which is usually manufactured industrially by commercial enterprises contains more air, milk fat and cream than gelato, and often contains preservatives and artificial flavors. 

Gelato has fewer calories than ice cream, as well as less saturated fat.

So, fellow ice cream out and get yourself some Gelato!  You will absolutely fall in love with it.   But you don't have to give up your ice cream.  I take turns!!!!!

Oh, and by the way, in care you want to know, my very, very favorite gelato that you can buy at the grocery store is.........

BUT, BUT, BUT........if you're out and about in Gilbert or Tucson, Arizona, and the sweet tooth starts acting up...... stop in at FROST, a gelato will not be sorry!  All their ingredients are from Italy and they make all their own Gelato.  Talk about delicious!?!

And if you don't live anywhere near these shops, look online for their others.  Maybe just maybe there is one nearer you......or if not but you're lucky, maybe they'll build one there!  Dreams do come true!
